All in for the Holidays
'Tis the season for holiday fun at Cheshire Home! Our residents and staff have had lots of fun celebrating the holidays together. We've already had a visit from Holiday Express and Santa. We love this festive time of year!
We are the only stand-alone special care nursing facility in New Jersey for young adults with severe paralysis. We invite you to visit our home through the pages of this website, and to learn about the unique programs and services that set Cheshire Home apart.
How Can We Help You?
Please call 973 966-1232 and our friendly staff will gladly answer your questions, and discuss our unique programs and services that benefit young adults with physical disabilities.
Each resident receives personal care assistance from Cheshire's Certified Nurses' Aides. These dedicated professionals provide a very special type of care, with bathing, dressing, wheelchair transfer, and any individual need a resident may have.
Cheshire Home's nurses provide the highest level of round-the-clock service to each resident, while demonstrating proficiency in all aspects of spinal cord injury. They are unique in their knowledge, and in the care and compassion they bring to their profession.
Residents rehabilitate at our state-of-the-art Physical Therapy Center. Here you see the RT 300 Cycle, which provides electrode stimulation to paralyzed muscles. This equipment was funded by the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation and Novartis Philanthropy.
Training and Education
Specialized training and education programs are offered at the onsite Cheshire Home Community Resource Center. Individualized instruction is provided, utilizing assistive technology designed for people with paralysis. These programs are also offered to students with disabilities who reside in the community.
Residents Pursue Personal Interests
Resident artist, Perry, has been hard at work painting masterpieces this summer! Pictured here with his newest work, “Jamaica Beach”, “Smiling Lion” and “Yellow Orchid”, we love seeing how his vision comes to life on the canvas. Keep an eye out for Perry's paintings that we proudly display in our facility!
Out and about, enjoying a NY Giants game on a cool summer evening. Throughout the year Recreation coordinates trips to fun spots up and down the state, including, of course, the Jersey Shore!
Resident Employment Opportunities
Employment skill training is offered at our onsite Community Resource Center, as well as job opportunities. Many residents and former residents choose to work as front desk receptionists, greeting visitors and answering phone calls throughout the day.
Trustee And Administration Leadership
Our Board and Administration represent a broad spectrum of legal, medical, healthcare and financial expertise. Its dedication to Cheshire Home and our residents provides a unique stewardship in the field of disability services.
Here at Cheshire, We Party!
At Cheshire Home, we love coming together for a celebration! Whether we're enjoying a holiday party, birthday party or our Annual Casino Night, we treasure the fun moments that become cherished memories.

Welcome to Cheshire Home!
Cheshire Home is New Jersey's leading provider of unique residential and rehabilitative services to young adults with spinal cord injuries or neurological impairments, and the only stand-alone facility of its kind in our state. Licensed as a special care nursing facility with a 35-bed capacity, we espouse a "can do" philosophy, and empower each individual we serve to attain their highest level of self-sufficiency. Our residents, admitted between the ages of 18 and 55, have quadriplegia, paraplegia, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, or related conditions.
Our Home offers an atmosphere of comfortable living, peer support, caring, professional services, and programs designed to help each resident advance their personal goals. Our care plans are individualized, proactive and broad-based, inclusive of nursing, physical therapy, education, recreation, transportation and counseling services. On a daily basis our residents pursue a lifestyle of their own choosing, through higher education, on and offsite employment, community volunteerism, and socialization. Often when residents attain independence and transition out of Cheshire Home, they do so with newly acquired academic and professional skills. Many residents gain valuable employment experience during their rehabilitation.
We invite you to visit Cheshire Home through the pages of this website, to preview our exceptional programs and amenities, and to go beyond our doors to Cheshire II and Cheshire III, our community-based homes for adults with disabilities who are able to live semi- independently. What you will find is a distinctive organization fully dedicated to the belief that each individual is ABLE, Not Idle, and fully capable of living a meaningful life.
Many of our programs and services are sustained through grant funding and private donations, and we appreciate your generous support!
