Cheshire Home and "Quilts for Kids!"
While attending a recent New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) conference, Cheshire Director of Nursing Madelyn Cerrato and MDS Coordinator Ann Saverd were introduced to the "Quilts for Kids!" program, by Lowell Arye, NJ Human Services Deputy Commissioner. Lowell's wife, Linda Arye, founded this program to comfort children with life-threatening illnesses and children of abuse. It began as a grassroots initiative, and over 14 years has grown into an international effort that has cheered tens of thousands of children.
Ann and Madelyn brought the concept back to the residents and staff at Cheshire Home, and got busy! Pictured is the first quilt to be donated, and we hope the first of many, as Director of Recreation Mandy Hecht has incorporated quilting into our slate of recreational activities. Residents Alice Papa and Liana Kraenzlin are bringing their enthusiasm to the project, and are eager to continue the process, making more patchwork quilts to be donated.
