Congratulations to Madelyn Cerrato, Acting Director of Nursing!
Madelyn began her career at Cheshire Home 17 years ago, and through the years she steadily advanced in the positions she held, from the "early days" when as the mother of very young children, she worked part-time, in the 4:00 - 12:00 midnight shift, to today, when as Acting Director of Nursing, she leads the Department, overseeing all aspects of care for three 24-hour shifts of nurses and personal care assistants.
In between, she transitioned from Night Charge Nurse to Day Charge Nurse, making herself available to all nurse and care staff and ensuring the floor ran smoothly throughout the shift. She also assumed the responsibilities of in-service training, and auditing charts and doctors orders. These duties expanded once again as she became Clinical Coordinator, where she began to lay the foundation for what would become, unknown to her at the time, her present goals as Director.
Having already developed interdisciplinary team strategy with our Social Services, Psychological Counseling, Vocational and Physical Therapy Departments, she will now work toward a new team philosophy among her staff, emphasizing communication that allows each group to work successfully during their own shift, but to also support each other as a complete nursing unit.
"Cheshire Home is great." she has said, "but we can be superb, and we're going to achieve that!" She is looking forward to implementing her vision, which will include nurturing her team, spending more room-to-room time with residents, and continuing to experience the hands-on responsibilities that will keep her in touch with her staff, and our residents, who are in her eyes, and in her own words, "heroes".
We all wish Madelyn the very best in her new position, and know that she will realize her goals!
