Rell Hamilton Attains his GED!
"2014 has been a great year for me!"
Rell's path to Cheshire Home began at Children's Specialized Hospital, where his own hard work and the encouragement of his physical therapist led to the hospital's social worker reaching out to our Director of Admissions Mandy Hecht. Her message was that she had a great candidate for our Home.
When touring Cheshire, Rell found himself with mixed emotions. Having sustained a spinal cord injury in 2014, he had already experienced a number of challenging transitions, and he had to decide if he was ready for another one. "I first thought that Cheshire was a nice place, with people my age. But was I ready? I decided that I could do it, and I needed to do it! Once I began living here I realized what Cheshire could do for me."
Cheshire Community Resource Center Director Jayne Dellon and Instructor Eric Levine worked with Rell, as he also worked independently, toward the goal of achieving his GED. On June 2nd he received the notification that he was successful! He will now begin his college career to work toward a degree in Recreational Therapy. Rell is clear that he plans to live on his own. "I will attain this," he affirms, and we know that he will.
